Ergonomics

The ergonomic user interface consequently follows the results of more than 10 years of Fraunhofer research and numerous scientific evaluations. More than 20 prototypes have been tested to figure out the most user-friendly design.

Unlike common tools, vitero uses so-called real-world-metaphors, e.g., cohesions and habits known from reality which guarantee a quick orientation in the virtual room. Many known and approved communication habits can be maintained, e.g.:

  • Table metaphor: The participants 'sit' around a table. The participants' representatives, so-called avatars, are arranged in a U-form. Learning and meeting contents are displayed on the table.
  • Swapping places means role change: The chair sits - like in a real meeting - at the end of the table and controls the presentation. When the presenter changes, he swops places - 'like in real life'.
  • No split-attention-effect, but a high group awareness: All information that belong to one person are contiguous; photo or webcam picture, name plate, text bubble, information about the role (via the seat), right to speak (via microphone object), state of talking (via acoustic waves), state of absence (via coffee cup symbol), 'rise hand' gesture, ...

Despite physical distance, participants feel socially present in vitero, so that a personal and concentrated working atmosphere arises. Thus, the communication process in the virtual room becomes more efficient, more personal and more structured.

The virtual team room is arranged like a real meeting room. Participants 'sit' around a presentation area; the presenter at the head of the table on a seat with a red, always active table microphone.

Avatarbeispiel

Participants are visualised by an 'avatar' via photo (or, as an alternative, a webcam picture), name and gestures. Audio communication is delivered by Voice-over-IP by using a computer headset or via telephone. In written form, participants can communicate via text chat, card queries and multi-user-board. Contents are presented on the presentation area in the middle of the virtual table. Be it a spreadsheet analysis, a video, a website, a learning program - thanks to fast application / desktop sharing, almost everything can be integrated.

Variation and extension possibilities are manifold in vitero. Communication settings in vitero can be organised without moderation, with moderation or with moderation and co-moderation. Moderation tools allow for structuring the session exactly like the moderator of a face-to-face-meeting does.

Live E-Communication with vitero:

  • Simple and intuitive handling
  • Moderation possible
  • Based on scientific findings
  • Very flexible and adaptable
  • Tab-proof due to servers in Germany

Dr. Daniel Stoller-Schai:

"The virtual participants were able to contribute their questions and comments via text chat which was displayed at the conference Hotel."
